Born in Midland, Texas, Gregg German has claimed to be from, "Everywhere, Texas." He writes, "one solemn step to the next down this road...", his search has taken him all across the state. Gregg began writing songs over 35 years ago and has composed over 2000 songs. He started each morning (around 3:30 a.m.) with a strong pot of coffee (usually two), guitar, pencil and paper in hand, all with one intent in mind - to write a new song. Although songwriting became the medium of his artistic expression, he has worn many hats: (Beware of, however, his black cowboy hat!) that of husband and father, son and brother, visual artist, poet, author, inventor, mentor and friend.
Rooted in the security of his East Texas home, Gregg also embraced his "calling to be out on this highway". Traveling the open road, he observed and wrote about life from his perspective so that we might see the world in a new light. Whether he was singing and writing under a deep purple, East Texas sky or on a crystal-clear, starry Hill Country night, Gregg's songs reveal his passion and creative genius. The vast body of his work includes an array of songs that are as rich and varied in color as the palate of his abstract paintings. Gregg's music and lyrics are evocations of reassurance and silken passion, intricately woven ballads of heartfelt truths, languid and hauntingly, bittersweet blues, as well as gentle, yet witty humor. His songs range from the abstract and mystical to the hard-driving, kinetically charged songs that rivet our very core, forcing us "inside-out, upside-down and sideways" all at once.
Many have attempted to describe this magnificently romantic songwriter...reclusive, unpredictable, difficult to pin down to time and place (hence, "The Ghost"), charming and charismatic, rowdy and testy at times, smooth and articulate, an artistic genius. However, having observed the sparkling glint in those silvery-blue eyes, there is no question about the depths of his artistic integrity. Gregg's songs speak of his knowledge gained, revealing that, "Time stands still for no man...", reminding us to not take one moment in time for granted, live urgently, and charge forward with "mighty rivers raging on". The poignant message of Gregg German's music and lyrics "Goes On and On, On and On."
